After the Flame
This pan had fed her family before she was born. It had cooked through grief, through lean years, through birthdays and burnt attempts to learn. She remembered her grandmother wiping it clean with the hem of her apron. Her father brushing crumbs from the edge like it was a book.
She set it back on the flame to dry, then oiled it, just a whisper, a sheen. The surface glowed. She didn’t rush. Some things asked for reverence. It’s cookware. It’s continuity. A quiet, seasoned keeper of memory.
ITEM DETAILS
Vintage Griswold #6 cast iron skillet with the large cross logo and “Erie PA” stamp, made between 1939 and 1957. A classic of 20th-century American cookware, this pan measures 9 inches wide with a sleek handle and curved sides for easy flipping, searing, and oven use.
The interior is smooth and seasoned; the bottom shows some rust that can be restored with a little care. For collectors, chefs, and lovers of kitchen history. A little vinegar, a little oil, and a YouTube video or two — this skillet’s just waiting for its comeback.
I’m not much of a cook and honestly don’t deserve a skillet this nice. Someone else will give it the love (and seasoning) it deserves — especially if they’ve ever had dreams of perfect puff pancakes.
